DAY 20  -  Hambantota, Sri Lanka

January 17, 2024

Last night our ship took a short trip around to the other side of Sri Lanka. The excursion today took us away from the port city to a very small hotel/local farm/bed (tree house) and breakfast (buffalo curd) and tour of the farming area. All kidding aside, it was a fascinating look at the life outside of the city showing many of the traditions of the local people of the island in the country.

The chef prepared a small meal for us made of local ingredients and spices including a mango chutney, a spicy vegetable mix and roti (bread).

For dessert we had home made buffalo curd.  It tasted a lot like a sweet soft  mozzarella cheese.

Next was a tractor ride to the outdoor cooking station for lunch.  The tractor looked a lot like a roto-tiller without the tiller!

A quick drink of coconut water and a meal served on a giant lotus leaf that we ate with our fingers!!

Off on another tuk-tuk ride to visit a local clay artisan.  The guy was 70 years old and had his granddaughter help by spinning the pottery wheel.

More water buffalo...and a tree full of flying foxes (bats!)

Back to the ship with an amazing view of the sunset off the deck with a drink and a snack.  The nice part about heading east is that we get great views of the sunsets!

We can always check our location on the TV!
