DAY SIX - Dubai, U.A.E
January 6, 2024
A world famous city - with the best and biggest of everything! Forty years ago there was basically nothing here. Now all is new - and still growing! It reminded us a lot of Miami, Florida but 10 times bigger! So much traffic and so many skyscrapers.
For us today's excursion was a trip through the main downtown city to the Burj-al-Arab - the most expensive hotel in the world. We had tea and cakes on the top floor. The inside of the hotel was unbelievable to see.
The British had a great influence here as they were considered "the protector" of the region in earlier times. Thus the tea - and everyone speaking English very well. It is truly an international city with lots of different nationalities living here peacefully. But as we know, the monarchy is very strong - and you must follow the rules as the penalties are very severe.
Our last stop of the day was in the residential section of the city by the marina.
Oh, yes, by the way, on our way back to the ship...we drove past the QE2.... remember hearing about how someone bought the ship and turned it into a hotel? We were docked just down the pier from it!
