DAY TEN - Bye bye, Dubai...Hello, Mumbai!
January 7, 2024
We knew right away that we were in India!! The beautiful colors and materials of the sarees were amazing! India now has the largest population in the world at 1.4 BILLION people....Four times the population of the US and in about 1/3 the size. Mumbai alone has over 21 million people.
As we made our "highlights of Mumbai" bus tour, just watching the street life was fascinating!
Our first photo stop was at the British built Victoria Railway Station. This train station handles an unbelievable number of 3 million passengers a day!!!
Next we visited the "traditional" old style open air laundry where washer-men hand wash and air dry the city's laundry as they have done for centuries.
Our next stop was where Ghandi lived while in Mumbai,,,his bedroom and bed are below. It was an interesting museum as well, displaying his life and teachings.
Our next stop was at a Hindu temple where we were allowed to take pictures inside. Note the colorful elephant over the door!
Our last stop was at the cultural museum.
As we drove past the famous Gateway to India we opted to not get off the bus as this was a holiday with huge crowds gathering in the surrounding plaza.
