DAY 42  Saigon, Vietnam  -  (Day 2)  Mekong Delta

February 8. 2024

Leaving the beauty and activity of Saigon downtown behind, we ventured off for a two hour drive to the Mekong Delta.  Famous again for its part in the Vietnam War, we saw lots of poverty and humble abodes on our way there.  But once arriving, we found a huge river with lots of tributaries, canals for the rice fields and many different types of water vessels on the big river.

But our first stop on the way was another amazing Buddhist temple with beautiful grounds and several giant statues.

Our next stop was for a gentle boat ride across the Mekong river.

This was our landing pier on the other side....leading to some interaction with the local wildlife....some honey samples....and lunch.

As we ventured into the woods, we came out on the other side for our personal ride through a beautiful part of the hidden river with the local boat drivers.

Back on our touring boat, we headed to the other side of the river with a popular refreshment - green coconut water!  It really is delicious and refreshing!

Back to the Riviera...sunset and a dinner out at the Red Ginger restaurant.
