DAY 56  -  Hanoi, Vietnam  -  Ha Long Bay

February 22, 2024

Our port in Hanoi is Ha Long Bay - over 2 hours from Hanoi.  But unlike most of the other outlying ports that are filled with cargo ships and containers, this one has its own beauty and attractions.  The long slow entrance into the bay was spectacular with rock formations jutting out of the sea.

After so many very hot humid days, we are far enough north to notice a big change in temperature - but with the cooler weather has come a lot of fog and lower visibility with some occasional rain. A nice relief, but it doesn't help the photography!

Today we took a junk cruise on the bay to one of these islands where a cave had been discovered inside. After a short hike up the hill, we entered a small opening in the side of the island to discover a beautiful cave with water/mineral deposits forming amazing shapes and colors on the inside.

And a bit of refreshment after the hike - a Hanoi beer for John and a dragon Coke for Leslie!

We got back on the junk and took a short tour of more of the beautiful rock formations.
