DAY 67 - Shanghai, China  -  (Day 2)

March 4, 2024

Our second day in Shanghai was an excursion that took us to the origins of the  town of Shanghai - a small "water town" called Zhujiajiao - built 1700 years ago with remnants of civilization from 5000 years ago.  It is much improved now...but these homes were built on canals and used for both homes an shops.

Marco Polo called this - the Venice of China  - when he visited here.

We had a walking tour, a boat ride, bought an umbrella, rain ponchos and heavy jackets, some rice liquor and some hot spiced pork jerky, some candied ginger and an ocarina.  Yes, we were cold, got wet, bought a lot, and, we wanted to buy more food!  But it was a fascinating visit.

Starting on the far right...pig knuckles, etc...etc

Buying our homemade rice and spice liquor.

Chinese life jackets.

They don't want you to forget where you are!
